Aussie John Has Anz In The Good Books

29 October 2000

ANZ owes an unlikely favour to the greatest bank-basher of all, John Symond of Aussie Home Loans, for its record profit. It's a little-known fact that ANZ finances Aussie's loans. The bank owns Origin which supplies the money to Aussie for it to lend at rates below ANZ.

Phrased and confused

IF at first you don't succeed ... When diamond boss Lindsey Hughson told a room of jewellers that BHP's new online service selling sparklers would make it the ``Dell Computer of diamond mining" he was met with blank stares. Moments later it was better received as the ``David Jones of the resources sector".

Credit where it's due

That means they don't see the computer as a great entertainment experience a blow for advertisers but offering hope for everybody else.

Many snappy returns

HATE to remind you, but there are only two working days left to file your tax return. If you haven't got a hope the Tax Office says it will lend a sympathetic ear if you call 132 861 first. You have been warned.

Super result in dollar dive

THE dollar's drop isn't all bad. OK, it's terrible but there's one exception. The lower it goes the better your super fund will be doing thanks to its international share holdings, Towers Perrin has found.
